Chrismas
Decorations Are Up
|
Every year, I look
forward to the various Christmas lights being put up around the village.
They put them up on all the telephone poles, and of course,
people put them up on their houses as well. I love this time of
they year. The air is cooler, the snow and lights are pretty and my mood
is forever getting better. Christmas holds some fond memories for
me, so I am always cheerful around this time of the year. I am
sure, I will get some lights for the apartment soon as well. Morrisville
is a nice town to drive through when everyone gets the
decorations and lights up.

Soon, we will all
have Chinese food to eat. I guess the Chinese laundry (dry-cleaning shop)
didn't do so well, so they are currently converting it to a restaurant.
This will give us all a little
more competition in town, and some fun
food to eat. I LOOOOOOVE chinese food, so I am
sure that I will be a
great customer of theirs. I will keep us all posted on the development of
the building, but I do know that the work is underway.
Someone tried to
burn down Oneida, or at least the old factory there. It is too bad, cuz the old
building was a great part of history there. I have been studying the
old rail roads around the
area, and this factory was one of the ones
that was built along one of my favorites that doesn't
exist anymore.
The Ontario and
Western. It used to
serve many towns in this area, including
Morrisville. Tractor trailers
and buses have taken over since then, but it was big shit back in
the
1800's. The old factory has been abandoned for quite some time now, so I am
quite sure it
was an arson of some kind. I don't understand how a BRICK
building can burn down to the
ground, but it did. Maybe there was an
explosion or two during the fire. I am not sure, but the
pix I took
from Al's car when we were cruisin' by sure are extreme. I am guessing that
either
some dumb kids or the current owner had a hand in it. It is sad
to see an old icon like that go.
As I was typing this
news page this morning (4AM), i heard a noise in the kitchen. Knowing that
no one was here, i went right now. I was a little scared, then i peeked
into an open bag of chi[s
on the table, cuz I thought it sounded like a
bag being crinkled, and there he was. The cutest
little mouse was
looking up at me. He was havin' a meal, so I quickly closed the bag up and
brought him and the chips downstairs so he could feast on the garbage and
probably get out
when he was done. I went right up and got the camera
hoping i could snap a pic or two of him
before he got away. He was
still right there nibbling away at the sour cream and chedder chips
enjoying
himself. So I took the pix and left him be.
Later, I heard a noise out my door,
and
there was a CAT that had chased the mouse back up the steps! I
quickly shuffled them both
right back down and out the door, which I
closed behind them. GHEESH!
After 20 years, the
bank finally saw fit to give us a new ATM machine. It is a sharp looking
outfit, with a few new features. The funny thing is that it uses the same
old program that they
have used since I was a kid, but the screen is
bigger, and the features are a little better. At
first I didn't think
they put any deposit envelopes near it, but then I found out that it spits
them out as you need them. I thought that was interesting. It is good to
see the bank
improving, even if it is a little bit at a time. They have
also added a new drive up teller in the
back with one of those tubes,
like in the "Jetsons", for your deposits and stuff to go up. What
will
be next. Time will tell.
The students have
finally left the town to it's ghostly self. Finals were last week, and then if
was
off to home for most people. Some will remain, like the equine
students to take care of the
horses, and some who don't have a home to
go to, and of course little old me who's home IS
Morrisville. I will
appreciate the quiet, and having the apartment to myself for a while, but I am
sure I will get lonely soon enough, and welcomes the students return in
January. They are
what makes my life complete. Now I face 5 weeks to
relax. Thank God for unemployment
insurance. I am sure I will catch up
on my website work, and some stuff I have been putting off
around the
house. We made sure to make our last night a fun one before everyone left for
home, I posted a video of the night on MySpace. WooHooooooo!!!! Break is here!
A couple weeks ago
the power company schedules a power shut off so they could add a new
transformer to our local power station. The concept was cancelled due to
bad weather and high
winds. Well, the power went out anyway that night.
Our register person leaned up against the light
switches and farted,
and out went the lights. He thought it was his fault at first, but the power
actually had gone off. The wind knocked a tree into a line down the road
and the whole valley was
out for about 3 hours. We chilled at the pizza
shop anyway in case it came right back on, so we
were running around
with our cell phones and flashlights putting stuff away and waiting. For a while
we huddled in our delivery drivers truck to listen to the radio, in
case it was something big. A couple
years ago, the power on the entire
east coast went out for a couple days, so we were worried.
Otherwise,
if finally came back on and all was well again. One week later they scheduled
another
outage to fix the power station, and it was off from 3 AM 'til
about 5. Me and my room mate Ed
stayed up and talked the whole time. It
is funny how stuff like that brings people together. We seem
to have
good power now. I hope it doesn't happen again too soon. Prolly during the next
good ice
storm we have.......
Snow has finally
made it to Morrisville, although it tends to come and go during this part of the
year, it won't be long before we have permanent snow cover in the
region. I had to get right out
and get some pix of what was,
essentially, the first snow of the year that stuck for a few days. The
picnic tables and Shawn's car were covered. The cooler air is welcome this
year, because my
apartment is sooooo frickin' hot all the time.
Upstairs to a pizza shop tends to make it that way.
Now we will be
blessed with the cold for about 7 months. Such is life in upstate New York.
During the last
couple weeks of school, the bar has been really hoppin' downstairs. Of course,
people need to park somewhere, cuz some of the customers are from other
local colleges, so
they park next door at the only available parking
lot near by. Unfortunately, it is owned by the
neighboring pizza joint.
Not understanding the importance of neighboring businesses attracting
business to them, they are having people towed away almost every night. Now
they have pissed
off many of their own customers, who now come to US
for pizza. Ya see, many of the people who
come to our bar, also go to
their pizza place to eat before and after they drink. Now they are
slowly giving themselves a bad name around town for towing people away. It
costs about $200 to
get your car back when it is impounded. That really
pisses people off. There was one classic
night when they tried to tow
our delivery guys truck away, oh were we pissed. My cousin (the
owner)
went right out to deal with it, and so did our bouncers. The owner of the other
pizza place
was out there two, and he actually tried to rough up my
cousin. That was a mistake, he almost
bought a few cans of whoop-ass
from our bouncers that would take a bullet for him of they had
to. It
is a good thing the cops were there to stop the fight before it got any worse.
This is a
problem that clearly needs to be dealt with. I am sure the
students will deal with it in their OWN
way soon enough, once the wrong
people have been pissed off, but in the mean time we need to
voice our
opinion about it to them, and maybe even settle a few civil cases about it. As
far as I
know, if a parking lot is open to the main street, and the
businesses are closed, and there aren't
any warning signs posted, they
become PUBLIC parking, especially if there isn't a fence or gate
involved. Maybe I am wrong, but I think they are only getting away with it
cuz the local authorities
are letting them. I believe it is grand
larceny otherwise, but I could be wrong. America is
constantly changing
laws like that anyway. Our business has been here since before the other
place anyway, and we will be here afterwards also, so time will hold all
the answers.

Cactus Blooms!
|
The Christmas cactus
almost never blooms, but every time I bring it out into the kitchen, it does.
This is actually the second time it has bloomed in the 5 years I have
had it. It is mighty cool that it
decided to bloom just before
Christmas. Maybe that is a good sign. This cactus originally was
Amanda
Brown's Mom's plant. She gave it to my old friend Doobie, who gave it to me
quite a long
time ago. It and some Spider plants I have are still alive
and kickin'. Amanda was my first friend in
Morrisville. I miss her a
lot, she and her family moved to Utica a couple years ago, and I have been
lonely ever since, lol. They are very happy there, Can't say as I blame
them......
